THE DOCTOR VISITED ME

Four days ago I suddenly fell ill. I had a splitting headache and a terrible cough. The temperature was 38,1 (thirty-eight point one). Besides my nose was closed up.

My mother telephoned to our district doctor and she came in an hour. She examined me, took the temperature, measured my blood pressure and said, "Nothing serious, just a flue. Keep to your bed for a few days. Don't go out or else you'll get complications. Mustard plasters will be useful for you."

The doctor prescribed me a gargle, a cough mixture and pills. She wished me good luck and went away. She was very busy because it was the epidemy of flue.

Four days passed. I followed all the instructions of the doctor and was almost well.

THE DOCTOR'S ADVICE¹

Once an old gentleman went to see a doctor. The doctor examined him and said, "Medicine won't help you. You must have a complete rest. Go to a quiet country place for a month, go to bed early, drink milk, walk a lot, and smoke only one cigar a day²."

"Thank you very much," said the old gentleman. "I shall do everything you say."

A month later the gentleman came to the doctor again. "How do you do?" said the doctor. "I am very glad to see you. You look much younger."
